Sancho Panza dates to 1848 and takes its name from Don Quixote’s loyal squire in Miguel de Cervantes’ famous novel. The brand was established by Emilio Ohmstedt, who was also associated with El Rey del Mundo. After periods of interruption and several changes of ownership, Sancho Panza returned to the Rey del Mundo company in the 1930s and became particularly well regarded in Spain during the following decades. Traditionally medium in strength, the cigars are made with filler and binder tobacco from Vuelta Abajo in Pinar del Río. Its relatively compact range gives Sancho Panza a distinctive place among the smaller historic Cuban marques.
