A 30-year-old Karuizawa distilled on 30 July 1981 and bottled in 2012 from Founder’s Cask number 2084. Released by Number One Drinks Company at 60.8% ABV, the single-cask bottling was limited to 347 bottles.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Dry and mineral despite the heavy sherry influence, with spent-gunpowder smoke, cigar humidor, cocoa, soy sauce, balsamic notes and dried porcini.
Palate: Powerful and highly complex when tasted neat, with a faint soapy edge; adding water markedly increases the soapiness.
Finish: Long and dry when taken neat, with pepper; dilution brings cologne-like and metallic notes.
